III Conferência Treinamento MG2015

III Training Conference Global Mission 2015 Report - PORTUGAL
Dawn Latin Europe – Portugal, Spain and Italy
Paulo Pascoal

In our III Training Conference almost 200 leaders (from 15 districts of Portugal) had attending different seminars and plenary sessions. We had also 8 leaders from Spain, 1 from UK, 1 from Luxemburg, 9 from Eastern countries (Latvia, Slovakia, Hungary). I tried to have representatives from Italia but I didn’t achieve that goal. So far, I wasn’t able to identify the right person to invest in Italy.

The good thing was the fact that we can saw wonderful examples of church planting projects in different regions of the country held by different churches who really want to work in partnership to reach their regions (Vizela, Mondim de Basto, Castro Marim, Graciosa, etc). Also, this conference helped some institutional churches and leaders to accept that the organic church movement it’s here and they belong to the Body of Christ. I think that the Organic Church seminar, very attended because was something new for a big number of leaders, helped some leaders to be more “gracious” with the simple church movement. The “organic” guys of our team like Nuno and Bárbara, had been balanced in their arguments and the result was more acceptation. I’m truly happy with this balance!!!! We should recognize different streams of the Church without judgments concerning motivations! I really see Nuno Soares as a wonderful bridge-maker between those streams! In fact, this conference was a blessing to identify the potential of some members of our team. Our team became much more united and motivated. I’m starting a process of leadership transition in terms of Evangelical Alliance Missions Commission.

Another goal was the combination between our focus on church planting and crosscultural missions. We had good inputs in all sessions about our responsibility to fulfill the great commission and we commissionated and blessed a Portuguese couple to Guinea-Bissau. Everybody was deeply touched by this moment. This couple will work among the balanta ethnic group in Guine-Bissau. In terms of church planting we shared powerful stories of church planting projects like one from one church planter of a difficult region in Portugal, Alentejo province, who had planted six churches in six years! Now, this church planter are trying to buy a truck to do evangelism and church planting in the region, 325 villages without churches! We saw lovely examples of practical results of our investment in terms of sharing the vision of Global Mission 2015. The Portuguese leadership are thinking more strategically regarding the Global Mission 2015 vision.

One of our goals was to identify key leaders in each district to establish more 5 district teams (research, vision & strategy, prayer). We have already established 5 teams and our goal for this year is to have more 5. I think it will possible to achieve this goal. Soon, we will arrange 5 meetings in the following districts: Setúbal, Aveiro, Porto, Lisboa, Santarém, because that people will be ready to start working with us as a result of the Conference.

Ngwiza Mnkandla, Dawn’s President and CEO, as main speaker, was really good! It was a big inspiration to everybody! I was proud to have a Dawn President with that spirit! We became good friends and he will certainly come back next year. He was biblical profound and challenger to all of us. We also had the contribution of Paul Dzubinsky in the Research seminar and was really helpful. I’m happy with the developments in this area. Those guys are very professionals in that! I believe we will finish this first step in the summer with a wonderful database. Amaury Braga was an inspiration in the Prayer seminar and helped a lot our national prayer coordinator. Rogério Carvalho from PMI, Spain, help us to see the challenge of the Arab world and Reinhold, our chief, gave us a good picture of the European Secularism. He also had good workshops about fighting poverty, Faith and Work, Ethnic Groups in Portugal, etc. In total we had 15 seminars to offer…was a little bit exaggerated but the evaluation was unanimous about the relevance of the contents.

The impact of the conference to the Spanish representatives can be measurable. They invite me to a meeting, during the conference, and they decided to have a first meeting in Madrid to re-start a church planting movement in the country. Everything is prepare to have that meeting at May, 16th, with a good number of leaders from many networks. I will be there to share Dawn’s vision and help them to re- start something similar. ALELUIA!!!! Paulo Pereira, from Luxemburg, definitely leaved the conference with a commitment to work in Luxemburg as “our” John Knox. David Toth and Jay Weaver (Dawn Eastern Europe Team Leaders) told me about the same impact in the eastern leaders and they want to invite me to come to Serbia to share our experience. All the eastern leaders returned full of enthusiasm. I’m so blessed with this!

The program was really busy and next time we will have to give more breaks between sessions. The need of translation in all sessions was really heavy to the translators and for the Portuguese speakers but was a good service to the foreigners.

SOLI DEO GLORIA!
